Golden Spruce Cabins

The history of Golden Spruce Lodging all started when longtime residents John and Patty began building the cabins in 1994 and the cafe/gift shop in 2004.  All of the structures, some of the furniture, and picnic benches were constructed from beatle-killed spruce trees located on the property.  John erected and designed them "with a chainsaw, a hand scribe, a few small tools, and sheer determination! John made true his childhood dreams of going to Alaska and building 'little log cabins'." The cabins and cafe were built with true quality and craftmanship and proven to withstand the tests of time...30 years and counting! While John built the cabins, Patty built the restaurant business.  She brought the local community and people from all over Alaska together with her delicious deli sandwiches and expresso drinks.  When visitors came into her restaurant, they felt at home with her warm welcome and wonderful stories of the history of the Golden Spruce.  That history will continue to grow under the new ownership.  The Golden Spruce cabins are your home away from home.

Our cabins are the gateway to some of the most beautiful places in Alaska.  From sightseeing in McCarthy and Kennicott, and hiking in the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, to fishing for salmon in the Copper River, there's so much to see and do.  Make us part of your adventure in paradise!

We welcome you!
